Yet another glitch from Secret of Mana, this time on the world map when you’re flying around on Flammie. I have no idea how I made it happen.

Invisible Waterfall Ledge, No Fall Damage, Sloped Surface Collision Issues, Chibi-Copter Fall Bug, Door Entrance Camera Bug

Invisible Waterfall Ledge

If you fall or float down (with the Chibi-Copter) above the waterfall, you will land on a an invisible ledge just above the little notch/cave where the Frog Ring is placed.

Questions & Theories: Is the invisible platform still there when the waterfall has been shut off?

by Vaughn

No Fall Damage

When turning on the Chibi-Radar, it moves you forward very slightly. If you are standing near an edge and activate the radar, you may fall down during the starting radar animation. During this fall, you will not take any damage and will fall to the ground nearly instantly.

by BOB74j (Video)

Sloped Surface Collision Issues

Depending on how you land on a sloped surface, it is possible to land “inside” of it after using your Chibi-Copter. It is easy to do this while landing on the Foyer stair railing. If you move around, you will eventually fall through the surface. In the case of the railing, you will fall on to the stairs.

by Vaughn

Chibi-Copter Fall Bug

Unknown Causes: While using your Chibi-Copter, it is possible to fall fast at first, instead of gliding down gracefully like what is the expected behavior when falling with the Chibi-Copter equipped.

by Zinkr7 (Video)

Door Entrance Camera Bug

When entering a door/entrance while in the air, the game will drop your camera back down to the ground like how the game is expecting you to enter from. It is possible to do this on a variety of doors using the Chibi-Copter.

Infinite 1-Ups, Off-screen Bowser Button Freeze, Bowser Box Glitch, Stage S4-1 Enemy Trigger Glitch, Small Big Glitch, Fall Death Item Switch

Infinite 1-Ups

Although technically you can only get to 1000 (or 1100 total) lives in Super Mario 3D Land (after which your counter is replaced by a crown icon), this glitch allows you to get as many 1-Ups as you will ever need whilst playing through the game. It is debatable if this is a feature or a true glitch as with many previous Mario games, many feature areas to exploit the Koopa shell to gain near infinite lives. Find the straight moving Koopas found near the end of Stage 1-2 and and by jumping on top of one of them at the right spot, you are able to continuously bounce on top of the shell as it hits the wall and bounces back under you. This is easiest to do with the middle Koopa as shown in the video.

by ArcticExtras (Video)

Off-screen Bowser Button Freeze

Unconfirmed: At any ending stages where you need to press a button to remove the bridge from under Bowser to proceed, it is possible to “freeze” the game if by chance Bowser is off-screen. The game will not know what to do and Mario will be stuck in place. You will still be able to exit the level using the start screen; however, there is no way of proceeding normally after this happens.

As explained by TheMario901: This was done in World 1′s castle. I had the Tanooki suit so I decided to just float over to Bowser instead of taking the long way around. Bowser is at the very edge of the bridge right at the button when he starts shooting fireballs at you so I floated down next to him and he jumped backwards. I did a rolling long jump onto the button and I expected Bowser to jump back toward the edge like he usually does, but he didn’t. The bridge broke with him about halfway down it. I’ve done it multiple times but It hasn’t worked for me every single time I’ve done it.

by TheMario901 (Source)

Bowser Box Glitch

Ground Pounding a Bowser Box when you have the White Tanooki suit will cause the game to lock up and slow down for a couple seconds as the game constantly replays the stomping sound effect and particle effects from hitting the box. This same glitch does not happen when using the Star power – it will destroy as per normal, it is only effected by the White Tanooki suit.

by FrankyboyLegend (Video)

Stage S4-1 Enemy Trigger Glitch

Standing on the edge of the moving platform on Stage S4-1 will cause the enemy spawn trigger not to fire properly and throughout the level, most enemies will either not spawn at all, or spawn late in a way that drops them straight into the darkness.

by SuprMikey64 (Video)

Small Big Glitch

Similar to a glitch featured in the very first Super Mario Bros. game, you are able to both simultaneously grow bigger and shrink down from taking damage and getting a power-up at the same time. You should see both animations fire at the same time; however, you will stay small (but with the hat still on!).

by urmomishawt04 (Source) and MrKungfupanda2 (Video)

Fall Death Item Switch

Missing Information: According to the video below, if you have one power-up activated, and another power-up in your item slot, switch out items, and then die in a level from a fall, when you re-spawn, and immediately “Go To Course Selection”, after which your item slot will change to the item you died with rather than the item you currently have.

It’s not clear in the video if this has to be the Fire Flower and Tanooki Leaf combination for this to work. It also isn’t clear if this will only work on Special 7-3 or not.

Collision Inconsistencies, Stage 3-3 Game Breaking Bug, Typos

Collision Inconsistencies

Platforms that move or are interactive (pushable or breakable) have various collision issues in the game. Most troublesome are the bouncing platforms in which you stand on top of. If you are too close to the edge of the platform when it bounces, you will fall off. Pushable platforms also cause issues when pushed over top of spikes. Even though the block is covering the spikes, pushing the block further will kill you as if though you are touching the spikes directly. This is most noticeable in the beginning of stage 3-3.

On top of the collision issues with these types of blocks, there is also triggering issues when jumping and knife throwing while on these types of blocks. Sometimes after jumping or moving on an interactive block, your jump or knife throw will not trigger properly when pressed.

by Vaughn

Stage 3-3 Game Breaking Bug

Fixed: During an update released on February 1st, 2011, there was a game breaking bug introduced that will not allow you to pass stage 3-3 normally. When jumping on the platform to cross the lava, you will die as though you touched the lava. An update to fix this issue was released February 11th, 2011.

by 8bits Fanatics (Source)

Typos

In various screens, the controller is sometimes referred to as “controuler“.

When you get an artifact, the message states “You gatta lost artifact”.

Debug Menu Password & Glitched Areas, Cave Music Shift, Transform Bug, Free Spell Cost

Debug Menu Password & Glitched Areas

Enter oBH jq2 xgI 5ve iNw g5f in to the password screen to get access to the debug menu. Press the select button and it will bring up two numbers. Hold B and press Up or Down to change the first number and hold A and press Up or Down to change the second number. These are coordinates to different areas around the game. Pressing select again will warp you to those coordinates.

Although this is an intentionally programmed code used by developers to test the game, it can also be used to access glitchy, scrambled areas that do not exist during normal gameplay. One side-effect I discovered of this glitch is that if you warp into a screen with a boss (I usually ended up warping to Bavmorda’s room as multiple ones exist – most are scrambled), and then warp again, the boss will follow after you. Bavmorda is impossible to kill when using this password because your level is not high enough. The debug menu password was originally published in Nintendo Power.

by Flying Omelette (Source) and mashroob (Video)

Cave Music Shift

Questions & Theories: Upon entering a cave, you will hear the Cave music track to the game. If you attack anything, or enter a different room in the cave, the music will sound slightly different, almost like some of the notes changed. It is unknown if this was intentionally left in by the developers; however, it does seem odd.

by Vaughn

Transform Bug

If you kill a zombie monster while it is transforming you into a pig, you will be stuck in that form indefinitely as the time it takes to turn back into normal form is based how many times the zombie attacks you in this form. The only way to fix this is to use the Fleet spell to return you to the beginning of the dungeon or cave, if you do not have it, or don’t have enough MP, you will need to reset the game. View this part of a video for a demonstration on this bug.

by TheUtilityMan (Video)

Free Spell Cost

If for any reason, Willow acquires a large amount of MP (80 for example) within a small amount of time, the game counts every single digit (31, 32, 33, 34, etc.) until it finally gets to it’s projected total. Using a spell during this period will essentially be free of MP cost, as long as you have enough MP to cast the spell. This same notion is applied while moving from screen to screen where the MP counting “pauses” during a screen transition.
